Fargo Housing believes having a place to call home is a basic human right. Applications are accepted online when waitlists are open, you will be notified via email when your application is approaching the top of the list.

Applicant Portal

Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority (FHRA) accepts applications online for our housing programs, when waitlists are open. Please check our website for waitlist opening announcements.  In an effort to better serve you, we have developed a single streamlined application through the Rent Café Portal. Please carefully read all the instructions below to ensure successful completion and submission of your application(s). The portal can be accessed by any computer, laptop, tablet or mobile device through its internet browser. An email address is needed to proceed with the process, links will be available under Rent Café.

General Instructions for Applying:

Please read all instructions completely. If you incorrectly or incompletely fill out the application, you will be required to make corrections prior to a successful submission. You will receive an email confirmation of receipt and your status can also be seen in Rent Café. You must keep your information current to remain on the waiting list. If any changes occur to your mailing address, household composition, and household income, you must update it  through the Rent Café Portal. Changes will not be accepted by telephone.

If you are a current applicant, please log into Rent Café and use your registration code that you received from Fargo Housing. If you have any questions about the applicant portal or for further assistance or accommodations. Please email info@fargohousing.org or call 701-293-6262. All applicants are subject to all regulations and policies governing housing with the Fargo Housing Authority.

Applicant Responsibilities

Once you have completed an application and been placed on the waiting list, it is your responsibility to notify the office if:

  • Your mailing address changes
  • Your family size changes
  • You no longer wish to be on the Fargo Housing waiting list

If Fargo Housing correspondence is returned because of an incorrect address, your application will be removed from our waiting list and you will need to reapply.

Once on the waiting list, you will be contacted periodically and asked whether they want to stay on the list. You must follow the instructions in these notifications to stay on the waiting list.

Please complete the pre-application. Each question is equally important in determining your eligibility and placement on the waiting list for housing assistance. Use this Application Guide for help in choosing the property or program that would best serve your needs. Once your complete application has been received, we will contact you through the applicant’s email when there is a change in the status of your application.

Please ensure we have a valid email and mailing address.

All address changes must be submitted through the Rent Café portal. Undeliverable mail will result in removal from the waiting list.

Application Guide

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher:

Rental Assistance applicants are responsible for finding their own qualified unit. The property owner and/or landlord will establish the lease, enforce its provisions, and collect the clients’ agreed-upon share of the rent. The FHRA pays the landlord a subsidy for the difference between the market rent price and the amount of rent paid by the tenant using a Payment Standard.

Fargo Housing administers the following programs:

  • Mainstream
  • FUP (Family Unification Program)
  • HUD-VASH (Veterans Administration Supportive Housing
  • EHV (Emergency Housing Vouchers)

Project-Based Voucher Unit:

These are designated units with-in the following properties that come with a Housing Choice Voucher attached. These allow you to pay approximately 30% of your income for rent.

Fargo Housing provides vouchers at the following properties:

  • Crossroads Senior Living (55+ years old)
  • North Sky Senior Living (55+years old)
  • Sunrise Senior Living (55+ years old)
  • Elliott Place (55+ years old)
  • Lantern Light
  • Jeremiah Project: Fargo Campus provides single mothers and their children housing along with empowerment, life skills training, support to pursue career-track college education, and on-site early childhood education
  • New Horizons Manor: FHRA’s fully accessible community with roll-in showers, specialized appliances, therapy room, and secured entry. Offering on-site laundry, meal program and 24 hour assisted living services.

Senior Housing

Elliott Place: 4462 30th Ave. S.
55+, 76 1-bedroom units, 8 2-bedroom units, offer on-site meals, hair and nail salon, optional assisted living services, underground parking, on-site management, washer/dryer in unit, individual storage closets, wheelchair accessible.

Affordable Homes/Apartments:

Pioneer Manor: 201 11th St. N.
This secured 46-unit building offers on-site computer lab, community room and laundry.

(Madison and Jefferson School Areas)
This community consists of 27 two-bedroom two-story duplexes; 38 three-bedroom ground floor single family homes and 23 four bedroom
two-story single-family homes. Each unit features unfinished basement, Laundry hookups and large back yard with shed.

(30th and 31st Avenues South and 22nd Street South)
This site consists of 18 two-bedroom split level duplexes; 2 units are ground floor duplex wheelchair-accessible; 6 three-bedroom split
level duplexes. These units are scattered throughout the neighborhood featuring laundry hookups, private yards and large backyard
sheds for each unit.

(34th Avenue South)
Spacious cluster of 28 two-bedroom split level or two-story duplex units; 2 two-bedroom ground floor wheelchair-accessible and 12
three-bedroom two-story or split-level duplex units. This neighborhood features large community yards, back yard sheds for each unit
and 2 playground areas.
